Harlequin a History

My name is Hafsa Mahida, now known as Harlequin, owner and founder of Harlequin Greetings. I realise the page name has stirred some curiosity. "What is the meaning of 'Harlequin'?" is an FAQ.

Interestingly, some amazingly creative friends of mine have come up with great theories:
A. It's actually some fashionable rhetorical version of the word Queen, hence, HarleQueeeeen! ;)
B. It's an ugly disease in infants.. really ugly =O
C. It's an inspiration from Harley Quinn, the lady of Batman's nemesis, the Joker. =D

Well folks here's the truth:

Harlequin (haar-le-qu-win) =p  was a famous jester/joker in Roman pantomime, typically dressed up in an eye-mask and diamond-patterned clothes. His dress pattern became popular and is used widely, esp on marble-flooring. I lurrrve that pattern.
Also, Harlequin " is the rarest of all patterns of black opal showing a quilt of small blocks of colour in every shade of the rainbow. It is often said to be the rarest gemstone on earth." and THAT is what we aspire to become.
So friends....
  •  Na it's not derived from the word Queen, as much as I want it to be.
  •  It's not an ugly skin disease. That skin disease is Harlequin Icthyosis, which also takes its "inspiration" from that diamond pattern, which in the disease appears on the skin.
  • Well, Harley Quinn and Harlequin.Greetings may have the same centre source of inspiration but Harley was inspired by the joker and went with the name for the Greater Evil. We love the pattern on his clothes and stick with the name For The Greater Good! =D
                                                                    ~THE END~
